Powerpuff Girls:
Remember the three super girls Blossom, Bubbles, and buttercup? These girls may have been the first crush of many little boys during the 90s. Usually, for this show, kids had their evening time packed, so that they could never miss the episodes.
Three little girls Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup were created by Professor Utonium who was a scientist and treated three girls as his daughter. Girls attended schools like normal kids but when needed, they transformed into super girls. The trio helped the city mayor to fight crimes and save the city from an evil scientist who always tried to steal a mysterious chemical “Chemical X”. Â
Scooby Dooby Doo :
Here is another among well-known childhood cartoons of the 90s that made many kids ask their parents for a pet dog. Scoby Dobby Doo was a cartoon series that also created a craze of mystery-solving among kids. The cartoon featured a team of detectives who uncovered different cases of supernatural events and had a dog as a part of the team. The team consisted of characters named Fred Jones, Daphne Blake, Velma Dinkley, and Norville “Shaggy” Rogers, and a talking Great Dane named Scooby-Doo.
The story mostly revolved around “Shaggy” who was a scared teenager and a scared dog named “Scooby-Doo”. Together with the team, they solved multiple cases related to supernatural creatures and events through a series of antics and mistakes. The series combined the adventurous and mystery with comedy that highly attracted us kids and taught us logical ideas behind every mystery.Â
Dexter’s Laboratory:
Dreamt of becoming a scientist as a kid? Guess what, many of us kids had greatly set out goals of becoming a genius scientist that could create giant robots and amazing gadgets in the secret lab below our house. The reason behind those dreams was “Dexter’s Laboratory“, a cartoon that featured a genius boy who loved to do inventions and create something new every day.
Dexter’s Laboratory revolved around two characters, “Dexter” – a genius boy who always made new gadgets, and his elder sister “Dee Dee” – a girl who messed up with Dexter’s inventions. Dexter mostly remains in his concealed lab of which his parents have no clue. His kind-hearted and hyper-active sister always messes up with Dexter’s inventions and wrecks havoc.
Although Dexter was smart and intellectual, we all knew that he was always outsmarted by his elder sister “Dee Dee”. Dexter often failed to accomplish his goals due to his carelessness and over excitement and his sister often comes to rescue him from danger.Â
Tom and Jerry
Not many will reveal, but still many of us secretly watch Tom and Jerry and it never gets us boring. This may be the only cartoon whose intro sound can never be mistaken, and many of us would still take a glimpse of its episodes. Created in 1940, the show has remained evergreen till now and the craze has got a recent hype with Tom and Jerry movie (2021).
Tom and Jerry featured two animals “Tom” – a mischievous cat, and “Jerry”- a mischievous mouse. Tom always ran for the jerry, wreaking havoc wherever they went. Being a natural predator, Tom always tried his best to catch and eat jerry but never got to. Jerry always outsmarted Tom and although the sow featured them as enemies mostly, many of us still believe that those two were just friends and Tom just threatened Jerry for his owner’s satisfaction.
Many times, the two were shown as friends and always helped each other in the time of need. The series accomplished multiple feats and because of its great fan followings, there were many movies released that provided the audience endless laughter and joy.Â
Courage the cowardly dog:
Ahh, this cartoon series remains unbeatable today for its unique storyline for entertaining and scaring kids. In India, many of us during our childhood loved to see this cartoon series late at night. Apart from being funny, the show was mostly horror and had a lot of interests as even though scary, we as kids loved to watch this every day.
The story revolved around a stray dog, whose parents were sent to outer-space on another planet. The dog was then adopted by a kind lady named “Muriel Bagge“. The dog was named “Courage” and was a kind but easily frightened dog. He lived with Muriel and her husband “Eustace Bagge“, a greedy and selfish farmer, who is always jealous of “Courage”- the dog and called him “Stupid Dog”.
The story was very unique, as it involved a frequent encounter with aliens, ghosts, monsters, demons, vampires, zombies, and other paranormal super-natural perils. The family was often taken into danger and “Courage” would always get a detailed explanation from a sentient computer about monsters and other beings and save his family from danger.
Conclusion
Although most of these cartons have closed their production, the fun, and joy they once gave us remain priceless. Even today when we hear the intro song, the childhood vibe comes to us and we remember a glimpse of our childhood that was full of fun and happiness.Â
