Do you know what is better, having a job or following your career? We often mix the two words job and career and try to understand the meaning of both to be same but in reality, it is not. Let us know the difference between them and understand each term separately.
What is the difference between a job and a career?
A job is something that we do keeping in mind about the outcome or in short with the intension of earning money most of the time. You only have one intention of getting the job done by the end of the day without being passionate about it and only interested about the pay check at the end of every month. You will not feel eager to do more that what is expected from you and will have no aim of climbing the ladder of growth.
On the other hand, career is something that you intend to build by yourself with hard work and effort. This is something that will help you to climb the corporate ladder and will have the intension of growing in your path. You will put effort to learn your work and will perform much more successfully. With career you will create a goal and it will not be bound to completing your job, instead it will create an urge of learning, upgrading your skills and build a network in your professional ground.
Which one is better?
Many people will say that money is not important and yes, it is true that money cannot buy happiness but, in our society, everything you do you need money on the first place. So, earning money is a required factor for everyone but earning money by doing what you love to do means much more important. Very few people in this world are lucky to do a job which they actually love to do and it brings them bread and butter with job satisfaction.
What can you do now?
You can always make a career change with your present job if you are not happy with the work and just continuing the work to earn money. You may find something which you will be more passionate about and it will be better for your future too.
When you are chasing your dream and taking various risks like a career change to do something you like, it will never be easy for you. You may have to face many difficulties and may run out of money but if you are keen to take those risks then you might secure your future. You may make less salary than your existing one but it will be worth it because of the experience.
Here are 3 more reasons to make you understand that following your passion is much more important than running after money solely:
Don’t select a job/career on the basis of wrong reasons: When you are working for 5 days a week, 8 hours a day sitting on your desk and doing the same boring job that you are absolutely not interested will make you worse in some time. The professional period of your life is one third of your whole life and you don’t want to waste it just by doing something that you hate.
You should make sure that you are passionate about what you are doing: When you wake up on a Monday morning, do you feel irritated or demotivated to go to work? Then this is the time you must change your job because you are actually not passionate about what you do.
You must be motivated to work hard: In those times, when you have to work extra hours late at night you must feel motivated. You should be doing something which will motivate you to do your extra hours of shift because that motivation will walk you through these situations like a piece of cake.
